Earlier this year we responded to Staffordshire County Council’s Public Transport Plan. As part of our work to advocate for accessible and affordable public transport, we welcome the ambition to improve connectivity across the county but believe stronger commitments to accessibility are required.

Let’s Talk Staffordshire

Public transport must be reliable and affordable, particularly for people living in rural areas of Staffordshire where services are often unreliable for many. We believe too many communities are left isolated without a car, limiting access to work, education, healthcare and social opportunities. Any future transport plan should prioritise regular, well-connected bus and rail services that meet the needs of rural residents, not just urban centres.

As part of our response to the Staffordshire public transport plan we advocated for more accessible transport of disabled communities, supporting inclusive and accessible transport for everyone.

We strongly support measures that promote walking and cycling. Safe, well-lit, and accessible routes benefit everyone, from children and older people to those using mobility aids. Footpaths should be well maintained, kept clear and tidy to support their use. Investing in joined-up walking and cycling networks can improve public health, reduce emissions and make local journeys more pleasant and safe. A transport system should be designed around people in the communities, to benefit everyone and connect our rural and countryside areas to our cities.
