January is a time for reflection, learning, and forward planning – and for us, that means laying the groundwork for future planting seasons.

As we begin planning for the 2027 planting season, we are building on the success of our recent hedgerow work, which saw over 2km of new hedgerow planted across Staffordshire in 2023/24.

This month, we will checking in with some of these planting sites to better understand the positive impact hedgerows have on wildlife, biodiversity, and landscape character. By monitoring growth and wildlife use, we can ensure our work continues to enhance the countryside in meaningful and lasting ways.

A key visit this January will be to the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Memorial Garden, where we will see how the hedge planted there is developing and supporting local nature. These visits help us celebrate what’s already been achieved while shaping smarter, more effective projects for the future.

Do you know a location that could benefit from tree or hedgerow planting? We’d love to hear from you.
