Celebrating 90 Years of Protecting Staffordshire’s Countryside

The day began with our Countryside On Camera Photography Exhibition, where attendees enjoyed tea and coffee while viewing a selection of stunning photographs entered into our annual calendar competition. The winners, announced during the AGM, were Judith Ward for her photograph of Hollinsclough, who received first prize, and Jane Jones for her photograph of a deer in Cannock Chase, which was awarded second prize.

Our Annual General Meeting, chaired by Sarah Cooke, included the election and re-election of trustees and committee members. A buffet lunch, kindly provided by Staffordshire Meats, gave attendees an opportunity to catch up and celebrate together.

In the afternoon, many joined our Planning Advice and Community Action Workshop, which offered practical guidance on responding to local planning applications. Attendees heard from Dave Evans, CPRE trustee and Chair of the Lightwood Community Group, who shared valuable insights from successful community campaigns. The session concluded with a lively planning Q&A, allowing participants to exchange experiences and build connections.

Despite the rain, some attendees also took part in a guided Countryside Walk led by Sarah Cooke as part of Love Your Countryside Month. Starting at the showground, the accessible route showcased the beauty of Staffordshire’s countryside on the edge of the town centre.
