St Peters CE Academy impressed us with their passion and dedication to preserving and improving their local area for wildlife and the community.

They are protecting local wildlife by:

  • Providing safe homes through bird and bat boxes
  • Creating and maintaining bug hotels to support insect populations
  • Providing nutritious food for birds throughout colder months
  • Planting wildflowers and watering the garden with recycled water

They are supporting Community Action:

  • Year 4 students litter pick every half term in the local community and make an environmental pledge during their leavers service

They are promoting the importance of recycling:

  • By creating a fun recycling initiative with Ralph the Recycling fish, where students can recycle soft plastics
  • Visit the recycling centre to recycle school waste weekly
  •  Encourage home recycling in the community
  • Created a book recycling shed – where students can drop off unwanted books and share them with others in the school

They are learning with a sustainable mindset:

  • Becoming palm-oil aware, using a scanner app to encourage sustainable shopping at home
  • Supporting wild orangutangs through Born Free Foundation.
  • Visiting Derby University to learn about coral reef conservation
  • Engaging with speakers and environmental organisations such as:
    • Born Free Foundation
    • Recycling and conservation experts
    • Wildlife Aid
    • Animal Aid
    • Local beekeepers
    • Severn Trent

We want to send a huge congratulations to St Peters CE Academy for winning the Green School’s Trophy 2025 – and well done for all your hard work and dedication to our countryside and the planet. Keep up all the impressive work.
