Burton Fields School wins Green Schools Trophy

22nd July 2023

Congratulations to Burton Fields School in Burton-on-Trent, who have won our 2023 Green Schools Trophy plus £50 to put towards their conservation work. Every pupil at the school takes part in at least one outdoor lesson a week. The pupils are passionate about nature and, with the support of their teachers, suggest, lead and implement the changes they would like to make to their school.

The children have done so much to welcome wildlife to their school grounds – they’ve improved a pond, made bug hotels, installed bug houses, composted waste, created a bog garden, log piles and a bird feeding station, as well as planting a wildflower meadow…the list goes on! They have also planted more than 100 trees, including fruit trees in their new orchard. The school has also recently set up an RHS School Gardening Club and Junior Foresters Team.
