Youth & Merit Award Scheme

CPRE Staffordshire re-launched it's Youth & Merit Award Scheme in the spring of 2016 inviting schools from across the county to showcase their environmental projects and make a bid for our prestigious Staffordshire hardwood trophy.

LOOKING BACK………

For those of you who are new to the CPRE, we thought we’d outline what went on, and we hope you find our report interesting enough perhaps to stimulate some fresh ideas for what is basically a means of generating interest in the CPRE, and our work in the County of Staffordshire in particular. We’re always looking for contributors, and indeed volunteers, to help us with our work.

The Youth and Merits Award Scheme was  open to any organisation with an interest in conservation. Categories for entering were adjusted over time to reflect the wide number of different schemes put forward, and originally we were looking for the best projects contributing to the protection, conservation, or improvement of the rural environment whether in countryside or village, on public land or property. Projects affecting land or property in private ownership were also considered, provided the results were visible to the public. Eventually, applications could also qualify if they reflected either the promotion of awareness and knowledge of the environment, or conservation of and improvement to the rural environment

A local timber merchant was enlisted to produce an eye catching hardwood timber trophy for us, complete with plaques for each annual Youth Award winner, impressive certificates were produced in house for other category winners, and away we went!
