Who we are

Trustees and staff
Some of the trustees and staff of CPRE Staffordshire

We are CPRE Staffordshire, the countryside charity that campaigns for a thriving beautiful countryside for everyone to enjoy. We believe in countryside and green spaces that are accessible to all, rich in nature and playing a crucial role in responding to the climate emergency.

We’ve been standing up for Staffordshire’s countryside since 1936.

Today, we examine and comment on Local Plans to ensure that developments are in line with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). We also respond to a considerable number of planning applications, particularly those that threaten the Green Belt and open countryside.

Our volunteer planning advisor has guided neighbourhood action groups across the county in navigating the complexities of the planning system and responding to threats.

We comment in support of developments on suitable brownfield sites (land that’s previously been built on, and now sits derelict or vacant) such as the former Alstom factory in Stafford and Rugeley Power Station.

We’ve also helped to plant trees and hedges around the county, and have held several Green Clean events to press for the introduction of a Deposit Return Scheme to reduce littering. We run an annual awards scheme for conservation and environmental work by schools and our stargazing nights give children the chance to enjoy the wonders of a dark, starry sky.

Our calendar competition has enabled many talented photographers to showcase their work in our 2024 calendar, available from our online shop.

Membership of CPRE Staffordshire is open to all. Members are kept up-to-date on our work via regular newsletters. We organise occasional visits to nearby places of interest, such as the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) near Norbury, and Fordhall Farm near Market Drayton. Anyone who values the Staffordshire countryside is invited to join us, either as a supporter or as an active participant in our work.
